About us
Bethany & Ike met during their junior year of high school, when Ike dazzled Bethany with his dramatic antics in Advanced Composition and Bethany impressed Ike with her brilliant Spanish skills. After a few weeks of playing DDR together after school, they decided they were meant to be. And, as they say, the rest was history! (Well, really they both went to Knox College together, and spent a year traveling around Asia together, and then did the whole long distance thing...)
Ike proposed to Bethany in February 2009, when she was visiting him in Japan. They were at Kiyomizu-dera, a Buddhist Temple famous for being constructed without the use of nails, in the city of Kyoto. Thankfully he did not get down on one knee, as all the Japanese tourists would have gone absolutely nanners over this!
Currently, Ike is completing his second year in the JET Programme. He teaches English to elementary and middle school students in the tiny village of Iijima, Japan. Bethany is in her second semester as a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studies Applied Economics. Next year Ike plans to join Bethany at UW, where he will begin his studies in the La Follette School of Public Affairs. They are both looking forward to living in the same country again.
